Jorge Esteves, BSc (Ost), DO, PCTHE, PG Dip Ed (HE), ILTM
After a successful career as a race walker, I graduated in Osteopathy in 1993. In Portugal, my native country, I worked in a multidisciplinary clinic where I treated people from all walks of life, from work related and sports injuries to the gentle care of chronic and acute conditions.
Since August 1999, I’m a Senior Lecturer in Osteopathy at Oxford Brookes University, School of Health and Social Care.
I have a special interest in sports injuries, especially in athletics. I'm a member of the Osteopathic Sports Care Association and my experience in the sports field included two years working for the Portuguese Athletic Federation/race walking team where I treated and advised some of the Portuguese World class race walkers as well as some elite middle distance runners in my private practice.
My personal approach in the athletic field involves the rehabilitation of the whole musculoskeletal system, putting a great emphasis in the correction of muscle imbalances and the stabilisation of the pelvis.
My general osteopathic approach involves a wide range of techniques suitable for people of any age. These techniques may vary from soft tissue stretching and mobilisations/manipulations to cranial work. A great emphasis is put on postural and exercise advice.
